The Upper Arcade 1825 – 1940
Local architects, Foster and Wood designed two covered shopping arcades; The Upper Arcade linking St. James Barton with The Horsefair and its mirror image, The Lower Arcade in Broadmead. The Upper Arcade was destroyed in 1940 as the result of bombing during the Second World War and the surviving Lower Arcade is now known as the Glass Arcade that links the Horsefair and Broadmead.
