Story maps
Some of the memories and information that were collected during the Bearpit Heritage Project have been plotted on to digital maps of the local area by Myers-Insole Local Learning (MILL). This has allowed us to create two Story Maps that enable an exploration of the stories of the area. As you click through the images and audio the map moves to each of the relevant locations.
The audio on the Story Map has been collected by Level 3 Media Students from City of Bristol College, History students from University of the West of England and MILL.
The first Story Map (Local Memories) charts aspects of the landscape before the Second World War, impacts of the war and post war planning, the endurance of Mickleburgh’s and the importance of the area with regard to the Bristol Bus Boycott and the ensuing Race Relations Act.
The second Story Map (Musical Journey) covers a wider area and features some of the significant sites that have contributed to Bristol’s diverse music scene.
Both Story Maps are GPS enabled to help you visit the locations in person, although the stories can be listened to in any order.
